A tragic event occurred during a family trip to Pensacola for spring break. A 16-year-old named Bryce Brooks and an older family friend named Charles Johnson II both lost their lives while attempting to rescue four younger children who were struggling in an undercurrent at the beach.
Bryce selflessly jumped into the ocean to help the children, but he went under during the rescue. Charles tried to help Bryce but also tragically drowned. The incident took place in an area of the beach where there were no lifeguards stationed.
Despite efforts to revive them, both Bryce and Charles were pronounced dead at the hospital. Bryce’s stepfather spoke about his heroic act, emphasizing his selflessness and bravery in risking his own life to save others. The family of both victims expressed their love and grief, and Bryce’s parents and younger brother are left to mourn his loss.
“As tragic as this situation is, it’s not one where we can look at it as a senseless tragedy,” Shivy Brooks said. “Our son saved the lives of kids he did not even know.”
Authorities have not yet released information on the conditions of the kids who Bryce saved, other than saying three people were flown to the hospital in critical condition and a fourth was taken in serious condition. I truly hope all four kids survive, keep them in your prayers.
