Eli Lilly announced on March 1, 2023 that it will be cutting the prices of its insulin drugs by 70% and capping patient costs at $35 per month. This move comes in response to increasing pressure from patients and advocacy groups to make insulin more affordable.
According to NPR, the cost of a prescription for generic Humalog will be reduced to $25 a vial starting in May. Additionally, Eli Lilly will be expanding a program that caps patient costs at $35 per month at certain retail pharmacies for people with private insurance. This move is expected to benefit many of the 7.4 million people in the United States who use insulin to manage their diabetes.
