Rockets fired into Israel from Lebanon in the worst attack since 2006

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a meeting with his Security Cabinet to develop a response to the missile attacks from Gaza and Lebanon that coincided with the Passover holiday.

On Thursday, 34 rockets were launched from Lebanon into northern Israel, the worst attack since the 2006 Hezbollah war, with five landing in Israel and the rest intercepted by Israel’s missile defense system.

Palestinian terrorists had earlier launched missiles from Gaza towards Israel. While most of the missiles exploded in the air, two landed in the sea. Hezbollah leader Sheikh Nasrallah warned that the group would support the Palestinians in their clashes with Israel.

Middle East experts suggest that both Iran and Gaza terror groups typically inflame the situation at the Temple Mount, calling for resistance during religious holidays. Given the recent acceleration of Iran’s nuclear enrichment timetable, Israel must take the escalation seriously, especially since Hezbollah is an Iranian proxy. Following the rocket fire from Lebanon, authorities in the northern city of Nahariya opened bomb shelters and sirens sounded in the Galilee.
