Upholding Godly Order: U.S. House Passes Bill to Protect Women’s Sports

In a significant stride towards maintaining the sanctity and fairness of athletic competition, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed Representative Greg Steube’s “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act” on January 14, 2025. With a vote of 218-206, this legislative move is seen by many as a reflection of biblical principles that honor the distinctions God has made in creation.

From the outset, the Scriptures remind us of the divine order and purpose in creation. Genesis 1:27 tells us, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” This act of legislation echoes this truth by recognizing biological differences that are not merely societal constructs but part of God’s design.

The bill ensures that only biological females can compete in women’s sports programs funded by federal dollars. This decision aligns with the Christian understanding of stewardship—managing the talents, abilities, and opportunities God has given us in a manner that reflects His justice and wisdom. In sports, this means ensuring that opportunities for achievement, recognition, and development are available to those for whom they were intended, in this case, women.

Rep. Steube, in his advocacy for the bill, articulated a vision that resonates deeply with Christian values: “Our duty is to protect the integrity of women’s sports, ensuring they remain a beacon of opportunity for our daughters and sisters, just as Title IX intended.” This commitment to fairness echoes the biblical call to justice, as highlighted in Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

The passage of this act is not merely about sports; it’s about upholding the dignity of every individual as created by God. It serves as a reminder that in our society, we must strive for policies that reflect the truth of God’s word, promoting environments where each person can flourish according to their God-given nature.

Critics of the bill may argue for inclusivity, but from a Christian perspective, true inclusivity respects and upholds the unique identities God has bestowed upon us. This legislation does not discriminate; rather, it acknowledges and celebrates the divine order in human creation, ensuring that competitions are held in a manner that honors the physical distinctions between men and women as designed by our Creator.

As Christians, we are called to pray for our leaders, as Paul instructs in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” Let us pray that this bill, now passed, will serve its purpose in promoting fairness, protecting integrity, and reflecting the divine order in our society’s athletic endeavors.

In conclusion, the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act” stands as a testament to the ongoing effort to mirror God’s justice and order in our laws and institutions. May this act be a stepping stone towards a society where every individual is given the opportunity to thrive in the area where they are divinely designed to excel.
