Greetings Saints, have you heard about the recent release of an American missionary pilot and two others from a Mozambique prison? It’s been a long and complicated case, with the group being accused of carrying weapons and ammunition without authorization. The pilot had previously been detained in 2016 on similar charges, but he was released after an international outcry over his detention and allegations of torture.
The case has been ongoing, but recently an appeals court overturned their convictions on procedural grounds and ordered their immediate release. It’s unclear when their trial will resume, but investigations are continuing into allegations that they helped train rebels from neighbouring Zimbabwe.
The group is associated with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), a Christian organization that provides humanitarian aid to people in developing countries, including Mozambique. The country has been experiencing political unrest since its independence from Portugal, and violence still occurs sporadically throughout the country.
Despite the challenges, MAF has been working in Mozambique since 1989, focusing on health care and education programs for children, youth, and adults. Hallelujah to the Most High God for the release of the group, and we hope that justice will be served in this ongoing case.
