Christian Persecution Around the World is Getting Worse

Jesus said we would be persecuted, and Jesus never lies. We will endure until the end; that’s what our Lord commanded us to do. Which means, He already gave us the power to endure — Jesus never commands anyone to do something that He hasn’t already given them the power to do.

According to Open Doors, an NGO that advocates on behalf of persecuted Christians around the world, the top 10 countries where Christians face the most violence are: Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt, Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Cameroon, India, Mali, and Sri Lanka[1]. There are many other countries that should have been added, but that’s the worst of the worst list.

In Nigeria, for example, an estimated 5,678 people were killed from October 2019 to September 2020, making it the country where Christians endure the most fatal violence[2]. Attacks from Boko Haram, Fulani militant herdsmen, and the ISIS affiliate ISWAP are common throughout Middle Belt and northern Nigeria[2]. Nigeria has a very old and diverse Christian heritage. Satan attacks the people he fears the most — the hardest.

Christian persecution around the world is a growing problem, with Open Doors’ 2021 World Watch List ranking the 50 countries where it’s most dangerous to follow Jesus^3]. North Korea has ranked No. 1 for 20 years, since 2002 when the watch list began[4].

We must continue to pray for the persecuted Christian brothers and sisters around the world. Those are our brothers and sisters, we should pray like they are.
