Video: Jesus Turns Water into Wine: The First Miracle of Jesus

Jesus performed over 40 miracles that we know of, but this was the first miracle of Jesus that was done openly. Turning water into wine at the wedding feast was a miracle done because of the request of Mary. The Bible says, “On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” And so the miracle began.

The purpose of Jesus’ miracle of turning the water into wine was explained further in John 2:11: “This, the first of His signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee and manifested His glory. And His disciples believed in Him.”

Here’s a look at the miracle taken from a movie clip.

The story of Jesus turning water into wine is one of the most famous miracles in the Bible. The original Greek word for “wine” is oinos, which means fermented grape juice, so this miracle was actually a transformation of unfermented grape juice into fermented wine.

If you didn’t watch the movie clip, here are key points to the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine. The story takes place at a wedding reception and begins with Jesus’ mother asking him to perform his first miracle by turning water into wine for the guests at the party. He does so, but not before having some fun with his mom by making her believe that he doesn’t know how to do it!

The Miracle of Turning Water into Wine

The miracle of turning water into wine is one of the most famous miracles performed by Jesus. It is recorded in the Gospel of John 2:1-11, and it took place at a wedding feast in Cana.
The context for this miracle was that there was no more wine at the wedding, so Jesus’ mother asked him to do something about it because she knew he could perform miracles (John 2:3). He told her that his time had not yet come but that when it did, he would perform many more miraculous signs than this one (John 2:4). She replied by saying “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5).
Jesus then turned six stone jars containing 20 gallons each into 180 gallons worth of wine! This means that each jar contained 10 times its original amount before Jesus changed them into wine!

The Significance of the Miracle

  • Wine is a symbol of joy, celebration and abundance.
  • Jesus’ followers were able to share in this experience with him. They were able to see him perform miracles and know that he was who he said he was, their Messiah.
  • The people who saw this miracle were also impacted by it–they believed in Jesus and followed him because of what they saw that day at Cana (John 2:11).

Interpretations of the Miracle

The miracle of turning water into wine is one of the most famous stories in the Bible. It’s also one of the most interpreted and debated miracles. There are several different religious interpretations, as well as cultural and modern ones.

  • Religious Interpretations: In this interpretation, Jesus was performing a miracle on behalf of God in order to show his glory to those who were present at the wedding feast. This interpretation is supported by verses such as Matthew 9:17-18 (KJV), which says that “Jesus did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”
  • Cultural Interpretations: A second common way people interpret this story is through its cultural context–that is, how it would have been understood by those who lived during Jesus’ time period or shortly thereafter (eighth century B.C.). One example comes from Genesis 1:1-2 (NIV): “In [God’s] image he created them; male and female he created them…He blessed them…” Some scholars believe these verses indicate God intended for marriage between men and women only; therefore any other type of relationship would be sinful or unnatural according to him/herself!

Conclusion

The Miracle of the Water-to-Wine is one of the most famous stories from the Bible. It shows us how Jesus used his powers to help people, and it also tells us about his personality.
We can learn a lot from this story: First, we see that Jesus was very generous when he turned water into wine at a wedding party for his friends. He wanted everyone to have enough wine for their meals and celebrations, so he made more than enough! Second, we can see how much Jesus cares about others shame by looking at how he helped this “couple” who had run out of wine (John 2:1-11). The Bible says that after Jesus did this miracle “the master of ceremonies” said “You saved the best wine for last!” Clearly everyone was impressed by what had occurred!
